The Russell Collection will host a special appearance and art show by the popular artist prodigy Alexandra Nechita at their downtown Austin gallery in January 2010. Nechita, now 24, began drawing at the age of two and by seven was painting with oils and acrylics. Her first exhibit was a one-woman (child) show when she was eight years old. She has been labeled as “The Petite Picasso” by the press, named one of CBS’s “Most fascinating women of the year” in 1999, and is said to be the rarest of child prodigies - an artist who mastered drawing and color, and who created a visual language of her own in a unique, figurative, abstract, cubist manner -- all by the age of nine. And by age ten, her work was compared to talented and fully mature artists as she developed a style of her own. Nechita has been recognized as the official artist of the World Federation of the United Nations, 39th Annual Grammy Awards, the Polaroid Corporation (50th Anniversary) and the World Peace Music Awards. Her work has been displayed throughout the world and is in the collections of dozens of museums and private collections worldwide.  

Nechita’s art show at Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery will feature her exquisite paintings, lithographs, sculptures and her new glass sculptures, which will all be available for acquisition.

An impressive collection of works from Alexandra Nechita will be on display and available for purchase at Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery. Receptions with the artist will be held over the weekend and a special children’s event to be held on Saturday morning. The events are free and open to the public but RSVP required for attendance. The art show and sale will kick off on January 15, 2010 with a preview and unveiling party from 6-8 p.m. There will be artist receptions on Saturday January 23, 2010 from 6-8 p.m., and Sunday January 24, 2010 from 1-3 p.m. The special children’s event will be held Saturday January 23 from 11 a.m. – Noon.
