Fashion’s Night Out in San Antonio
September 10, 2009 saw an unprecedented global initiative created to celebrate fashion, restore consumer confidence, and boost the industry’s economy, on a night known as Fashion’s Night Out for an industry that has been a staple of American culture for decades. In the United States, Thursday night’s festivities saw all 40 Neiman Marcus stores “put the fun back in shopping,” with a program that was a collaboration between American Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York.
Held at the Neiman Marcus store at The Shops of La Cantera, the event included artwork from Artpace, which is a non-profit contemporary visual arts center, DJs spinning the best runway music, as well as designer trunk shows and beauty makeovers by celebrity make-up artist LB Rosser. There was also a selection of foods, which featured appetizers, COCO Chocolate Lounge & Bistro, Da Vinci Gelato, Couture Cuisine and The Mariposa Restaurant offered a special dining menu. Not to mention the champagne.
The first ever collaboration offered 40% of the proceeds to the September 11 Memorial and Museum. The organization is a private non-profit group responsible for oversight of the design, raising the necessary funds, programming and operating the Memorial & Museum being built at the World Trade Center site. Their efforts will forever memorialize the people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, which is a day in US history that stunned the world. The rebuilding of the infamous skyline in New York City, which is the hub of fashion and design, was the inspiration behind Fashion’s Night Out.
