A Longhorn Auction Deserving of Black Tie

March 19-20

To make a long story short … more than 500 cattle breeders will gather March 19-20 at the DFW Marriott Hotel & Golf Club for the 2010 Texas Longhorn Legacy Sale VI, an auction of about 100 of the nation’s top Texas Longhorns. New World Wine & Food Festival

May 12-16

The New World Wine and Food Festival, San Antonio’s premier wine and food event, returns May 12-16 to coincide with the Valero Texas Open. The five-day occasion includes wine tasting and shopping at La Cantera, wine seminars, winemaker dinners at San Antonio’s top restaurants, and The Grand Tasting in the Grotto area of the Civic Center. Remarkable women, remarkable work

March 6-31

The Instituto Cultural de México (Institute of Mexican Cultures) in San Antonio’s Hemisfair Park is hosting a free exhibit featuring the artistic, cultural and scientific accomplishments of three native Mexican women:  Verónica Prida, Rebeca Rico Hesse, and Carla Veliz. The event opens on Saturday, March 6, with a recognition ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m. The exhibit is free and will run through March 31, but is closed on Mondays.

Celebrate Texas Independence in Luckenbach

Enjoy live music, a flag retirement and a tongue-in-cheek signing of a “revised” Texas Declaration of Independence, all in one of the Hill Country’s most charming, historic towns: Luckenbach. The events begin at noon on Saturday, March 6. Plenty of Lone Star longnecks will be available for the thirsty!

For one weekend only, the Russell Collection Fine Art Gallery in downtown Austin will host three world renowned Spanish artists: Ramon Vilanova, Josep Domenech, and M. D. Rubio.

Salon International Show at Greenhouse Gallery

April 10-30

San Antonio’s Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art will showcase winners of Salon International 2010, the ninth annual juried exhibition sponsored by the International Museum of Contemporary Masters of Fine Art.  The event kicks off with an Open House for artists, collectors and press on April 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A “Meet the Artists” event also will be on April 10, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The exhibit runs from April 10 through April 30.

NASCAR returns to Texas

April 17-18

The Texas Motor Speedway near Fort Worth will host NASCAR racing on the tail of Tax Day and just a car’s length before Earth Day. The weekend includes the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 Nationwide Series race on Saturday, April 17, and the Samsung Mobile 500 Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, April 18. Artist spotlight on Daniel Keys and Cesar Santos

San Antonio’s Greenhouse Gallery will showcase the works of two rising young artists: Daniel Keys and Cesar Santos.
Daniel Keys is a self-taught artist who has developed his own style painting still life and landscapes. Cesar Santos immigrated to the U.S. from Cuba and has studied in Miami and Italy. His work includes numerous commissions, including portraits and posters. Greenhouse Gallery will host an all-day Open House in their honor on Saturday, March 6.

Attendees also can enjoy a complimentary beauty lounge, gourmet treats and other specialty items.

26th Annual Governor's Volunteer Award Winners

OneStar Foundation: Texas Center for Social Impact is proud to announce the winners of the 2009 Governor’s Volunteer Awards. The winners are:
•    Social Innovator Award: Diane Flores, The Learning Zone, East Arlington Branch Library. Ms. Flores’ work as an AmeriCorps* VISTA member at an after-school tutoring program has transformed her community by addressing the challenges of literacy faced by both children and adults.

The Russell Collection will host a special appearance and art show by the popular artist prodigy Alexandra Nechita at their downtown Austin gallery in January 2010. Nechita, now 24, began drawing at the age of two and by seven was painting with oils and acrylics. Her first exhibit was a one-woman (child) show when she was eight years old.

September 28 - August 22, 2010 The Culture of Wine The Museum at the George Bush Presidential Library will delve into the production of wine in the United States. From the moment you step into the vineyard area of the exhibit, you will learn about the differences in soil types, vineyard management practices and harvest techniques. Stations throughout the exhibit emphasize how a good winemaker combines techniques and processes he can control with what Mother Earth provides to produce distinctive wines. The exhibit begins with the history of the first vineyards planted in Texas by Spanish missionaries and continues to the important role of Texas rootstock in saving many of the French vineyards in the late 19th century. For every person who takes an all-new F-150, Expedition, Flex, Edge, Fusion or other Ford vehicle for a spin during the Drive One 4 UR School event, Ford will donate $20 to Boerne Champion High School. In total, as much as $6,000 could be directed toward Project Graduation.

Saturday Februaury 14, 2009, 11:00am - 5:00 pm in Downtown Boerne. “Ticket holders meander through Downtown Boerne exploring the unique stores, galleries and fine restaurants that this charming community has to offer. A bag for collecting chocolates will be provided with a map indicating the 25+ stops on the Chocolate Walk. A limited number of tickets will be available.
