For centuries, humans have relied upon essential oils like lavender, bergamot, chamomile, rose and juniper to lift spirits. These days with a wide assortment of heavenly oils available at every natural foods store, it’s easy to incorporate these scents into your daily routine.
In the Bath
Before a long soak or a quick shower, take a few minutes to brush your body with a natural, soft-bristled brush. Use long, gentle strokes moving from your extremities toward your heart. Next, mix a few drops of invigorating rosemary or relaxing lavender into a small container of olive oil and smooth the concoction over your body. Then proceed with your usual bathing routine. Fighting a cold? Consider using a bit of eucalyptus oil instead.
In the Kitchen
An eco-friendly way to bring a comforting scent to your home while cleaning involves filling your sink with hot water, sprinkling in a half cup of borax and topping it off with just a few drops of juniper, lemon or peppermint oil. Let it set for an hour, drain the water, and rub lightly with a damp sponge.
In the Family Room
A few drops of your favorite scent (we like to mix lemon and lavender) on a cotton boll can be dropped into your vacuum.
At the Office
Much like the kitchen sink technique, a bit of essential oil placed in a pretty bowl of warm water freshens the air. Try rose for a sense of well-being.
